  3. Codenames for the Computers

To some people, naming a computer is just plain nonsense. To others, it helps with organization, and makes describing the computer a bit easier. So I decided to just pick out some codenames for my computers.

RedFoxFlame    This is subject to name change

    • Computer: My custom built desktop
    • Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
    • HDD: 500GB WD Caviar RE2
    • RAM: 2GB DDR2
    • CPU: AMD Athlon64 X2 5000+ (2.2GHz, 1MB L2 Cache)
    • GPU: ATI Radeon HD 4200
    • Motherboard: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. GA-MA785GM-US2H (Socket M2)

    Kaigara

    • Computer: Acer Aspire 5517
    • Operating System: Fedora Linux 16
    • HDD: Hitachi 320GB
    • RAM: 4GB DDR2
    • CPU: AMD Athlon X2 L310 (1.2GHz, 512KB L2 Cache)
    • GPU: ATI Radeon HD 3200
    • Motherboard: THIS IS A LAPTOP

1337itude      This name is also subject to change REAL SOON

    • Computer: Dell Latitude CPi D300XT
    • Operating System: Windows 98 SE
    • HDD: IBM Travelstar 6GB
    • RAM: 192MB DDR
    • CPU: Intel Pentium II (300MHz)
    • GPU: Neomagic
    • Motherboard: THIS IS A LAPTOP AS WELL

I will update the info on 1337itude when I ever decide to run Speccy on it. It is only running Windows XP at the moment, and I WILL install Windows 98 SE really soon. Also, there is another computer in the works that i will probably run as a low power machine (mostly for setting up a shared internet connection with the Dreamcast). If you would like to make a comment or suggestion, I urge you to do so. Later guys!

  4. Skyward Sword…. Opinions Anybody?

So, many Nintendo fans (including myself) are really excited for the 20th. It just can’t come fast enough! I’ve read some reviews by IGN and ArsTechnica, and this actually excites me. I haven’t been excited about a game in such a long time, but the high possibility that this may actually top Ocarina of Time is what really triggered it. OoT was my favorite Legend of Zelda adventure, but if Skyward Sword is really what reviewers say it is, then this is awesome! Although, not everybody is a LoZ fan (or even a Nintendo fan), and that is perfectly fine. I kind of want to know, what are your opinions on this? Is this game gonna be overhyped, or is it going to be Nintendo’s next breakthrough?

  5. So… Regarding the Card Reader

I’m sure you remember me mentioning I had a Koutech Card Reader with a dead floppy drive right? Well… that was a blunder. The floppy drive actually works fairly well, and isn’t dead at all. The problem was, I was an idiot and forgot to plug in the 4 pin power connector from the power supply to the card reader to power the floppy drive!

Somebody is probably wondering, why the hell would I want a floppy drive in this day and age? Well, to answer your question, I have two reasons.

    1. Floppy disks are still useful for flashing the BIOS.
    2. I just randomly wanted a floppy drive to use. (This is the larger reasoning behind it)

So… I’m an idiot, and I should be subjected to 1,000 facepalms.

Fun Fact: This card reader supports memory stick, SD Card, Compact Flash, and SMC. I’m sure you knew that though. :P

  7. The New Desktop

Okay, so this is my first REAL blog post. (All of you readers are probably like, “Wtf? He’s finally doing a post?”)

So I finally got my case and cpu fan from Sansui350a (You’re only 10 1/2 months late! xD lulz), and i had some extra desktop RAM lying around. Therefore….. my desktop is done! You want some hardware specs? I’m sure you do right? Well this build ain’t special, but i guess i’ll share anyway!

    • AMD Athlon64 X2 5000+ (1MB of L2 Cache, 2.6 GHz clock speed)
    • XFX Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTS (640MB)
    • 1GB DDR2 RAM (In REAL NEED of a MAJOR UPGRADE!!)
    • Koutech Card Reader with a dead floppy drive (FFFFUUUUUU)
    • Rosewill 500W PSU (It’s actually pretty decent)
    • 40GB WD Caviar HDD (In need of an upgrade!)
    • Gigabyte MA785GM-US2H Motherboard

So yeah, my hardware sucks.

As far as this case goes, my only complaint is the position of the front panel USB ports and Audio jacks. Other than that, i have no gripes about the case. Though i can’t seem to get the display out of my GPU, and im stuck using the Radeon HD 4200 onboard graphics chip. It is fine for the time being since im not really playing any games or remotely intensive (lack of RAM is to blame :( )

I currently have Ubuntu 11.04 installed, just because that was the first disc i picked up. I’m not using Unity, and i am gonna install Lubuntu-desktop and get rid of all the other shit i don’t want or need, but for now, here is my desktop!

This pretty much wraps up my post! It is my first and i didn’t have much to say, but it works for the time being. Until next time! (whenever that is…) :P

Chiaki Ishikawa - Incomplete Combustion (不完全燃焼 / 石川智晶)

This happens to be OP for Kamisama Dolls (awesome anime btw). Also, Chiaki’s voice is amazing. I have 2 songs from the Gundam 00 soundtracks; Prototype and Squall which are also great songs.
